David Byrne ha condiviso sul proprio sito una playlist dal sapore fortemente politico, accompagnata da un testo al veleno rivolto al presidente americano Donald Trump e a coloro che lo appoggiano. Il titolo The Beautiful Shitholes fa chiaro riferimento alle parole pronunciate dal Presidente degli Stati Uniti in merito ad alcuni paesi caraibici (Haiti ed El Salvador in particolare) e a quelli africani in genere, definiti appunto “cessi di paesi” all’interno della frase «Why are we having all these people from shithole countries come here?», durante un incontro nella sala ovale lo scorso 11 gennaio.
Il fondatore dei Talking Heads ha voluto rispondere alla brutalità di tali parole con la bellezza proveniente da quei paesi sotto forma di musica. Nel testo definisce apertamente Trump come razzista, e rivolge le proprie preoccupazioni verso tutti coloro che lo appoggiano o lo assecondano per un proprio tornaconto, come i potenti riunitisi recentemente a Davos.
David Byrne ha appena pubblicato un nuovo singolo in collaborazione con Oneohtrix Point Never, il secondo estratto dall’atteso American Utopia, in uscita il prossimo 9 marzo. Il relativo tour passerà dall’Italia durante la prossima estate, in particolare a Ravenna, Perugia e Trieste. Di seguito, il testo integrale che accompagna la playlist:

Here’s a playlist that gives just the smallest sample of the depth and range of creativity that continues to pour out of the countries in Africa and the Caribbean. It is undeniable. Can music help us empathize with its makers?
For me, Trump is not the issue. We know and have known for a long time that he is racist. That is a fact, borne out by plenty of evidence. It’s not news—we know what he is.
What is truly disturbing are the Republicans who go along with this person. Their behavior makes them complicit and the same as he is…exactly the same, no difference. Remember that come voting time.
The swells in Davos too—people who are happy to get rich off Trump’s policies and are more than fine supporting a racist. None of them have risen to condemn his racism and to say that this man does not represent our values as human beings
