Lo avevamo scritto all’annuncio delle nomination che sarebbe stato l’anno di Taylor Swift nel circuito mainstream mondiale e, a confermarlo, sono arrivate le premiazioni ai Grammy.
L’edizione 2024 del noto riconoscimento, che premia in primo luogo risultati di vendita e popolarità, vede la popstar guadagnarsi l’Album Of The Year (Midnights), statuetta che fa di lei la prima artista a ottenerlo per quattro volte complessive dopo i lavori Fearless, 1989 e folklore. Dietro la popstar colossi come Stevie Wonder, Frank Sinatra e Paul Simon, fermi a quota tre. Delle sei nomination, Swift ne ha ottenuta soltanto un’altra sempre per l’ultimo lavoro discografico che vince inoltre nella categoria di genere, Pop Vocal Album.
In un’edizione tutta al femminile, a portarsi a casa più statuette è Phoebe Bridgers sia in solo che nelle boygenius, il trio folk rock condiviso con Lucy Dacus e Julien Baker. Quest’ultimo si aggiudica tre dei quattro premi ovvero per the record (l’Alternative Album of the Year) e per il brano Not Strong Enough (Best Rock Song e Best Rock Performance). La collaborazione dell’artista con SZA, Ghost in the Machine, fa inoltre vincere a quest’ultima l’unico Grammy di questa edizione, lei che pure era tra le favorite con l’album SOS.
Sempre a proposito delle boygenius: la formazione sgomina dunque la concorrenza degli Arctic Monkeys di The Car, ma anche di Lana Del rey con Did you know there’s a tunnel under Ocean Blvd, Gorillaz con Cracker Island e PJ Harvey con I Inside the Old Year Dying.
La 66esima edizione della cerimonia, condotta dall’attore e comico Trevor Noah di The Daily Show, ha visto inoltre vincitrici Billie Eilish e Miley Cyrus, la prima meritatamente per What Was I Made For?, dalla colonna sonora di Barbie, che porta a casa 2 Grammy: il più ambito (miglior canzone) e quello relativo ad una canzone prestata al mezzo visivo; la seconda, prevedibilmente, con la hit autobiografica Flowers che è il singolo dell’anno ma anche la Best Solo Pop Performance.
Olivia Rodrigo, delle sei nomination, tra cui l’album GUTS, è tornata a casa con zero Grammy, come pure i Rolling Stones, i Foo Fighters e i Queens of the Stone Age. Chi porta a casa i premi tra i rockettari e dintorni sono invece i Paramore: il loro ritorno discografico, This Is Why è il miglior Rock Album mentre la sua title track vince nella categoria Best Alternative Music Performance. Anche i Metallica portano a casa una statuetta: l’album 72 Seasons vince nella categoria Best Metal Performance.
Per l’elettronica c’era anche Aphex Twin in lizza con il brano Blackbox Life Recorder 21F ma niente ha potuto contro Rumble, il singolo di Skrillex, Fred Again.. e Flowdan.
Nel rap stravince Killer Mike vuoi per il brano Scientists & Engineers con André 3000, Future e Eryn Allen Kane (2 premi) vuoi e soprattutto per l’album Michael.
Tra gli “emergenti” ai Grammy: Victoria Monét si aggiudica il premio di categoria ma anche due Grammy per l’album Jaguar II (Best R&B Album, Best Engineered Album). Last but not least: Joni Mitchell vince un premio per l’album Joni Mitchell at Newport [Live], che trionfa nella categoria folk (Best Folk Album).
