Dopo aver mandato in onda i primi due episodi della seconda stagione, HBO ha rinnovato The Deuce per una terza e conclusiva mandata di episodi. La serie creata da David Simon e George Pelecanos segna la terza collaborazione tra Simon e la rete dopo la celebre The Wire e Treme. Del notevole cast fanno parte James Franco (anche produttore esecutivo) in un doppio ruolo, Maggie Gyllenhaal e Zoe Kazan.
HBO ha quindi esaudito le richieste dei creatori, il cui piano iniziale ha sempre previsto la programmazione di tre stagioni per la loro storia.
