L’assegnazione del premio Nobel per la Letteratura a Bob Dylan ha fatto discutere un po’ ad ogni latitudine del globo. Ma dal mare magnum delle polemiche ad emergere sono stati in particolare i complimenti che il menestrello di Duluth ha ricevuto da colleghi e personalità illustri. Tra queste vanno segnalate le belle parole spese da Tom Waits, il quale, insieme alla moglie Kathleen Brennan, ha definito Dylan «a Master of [Literature’s] original form», dal cantautore inglese Billy Bragg e dal presidente Barack Obama, che si è complimentato con Dylan definendolo «one of my favorite poets». A questi va poi ad aggiungersi l’attestato di stima da parte di Bruce Springsteen, il quale, anziché rilasciare dichiarazioni a caldo, ha preferito condividere un estratto del nuovo libro Born to Run nel quale celebra Dylan come «il padre del mio paese» («Bob pointed true north and served as a beacon to assist you in making your way through the new wilderness America had become […] He planted a flag, wrote the songs, sang the words that were essential to the times, to the emotional and spiritual survival of so many young Americans at that moment»). A difesa della vittoria del cantautore americano anche la vecchia amica Marianne Faithfull, che ha commentato: «I think he’s one of the greatest artists in the world and he’s changed our whole lives with his writing and his poetry».
