Come vi avevamo riportato qualche giorno fa, Bob Geldof ha radunato una nuova Band Aid per riarrangiare una nuova versione della celebre Do They Know It’s Christmas? a favore della lotta contro l’Ebola. La versione 2014 – la quarta dopo l’originale del 1984 e le successive versioni del 1989 e del 2004 – incisa lo scorso weekend a Londra sotto la supervisione di Paul Epworth, è stata presentata in anteprima nell’ultima puntata di X Factor UK (streaming nel widget sottostante).
Il cast, che festeggia quest’anno anche il trentesimo anniversario dalla prima indimenticata versione, comprende Disclosure, Jessie Ware, Robert Plant, Bono, Chris Martin (Coldplay), Sam Smith, Roger Taylor (Queen), Ellie Goulding, Underworld, Sinead O’Connor, Bastille, Ed Sheeran, One Direction, Elbow, Rita Ora, Paloma Faith, Clean Bandit, Olly Murs, Seal, Jimmy Napes, Emeli Sandé, Anélique Kidjo, Paloma Faith, Fuse ODG e lo stesso co-writer del brano assieme a Geldof, Midge Ure.
Tra i grandi assenti della manifestazione, da segnalare Adele, David Bowie e Damon Albarn, con quest’ultimo che si è espresso in maniera critica nei confronti dell’iniziativa: “There are problems with our idea of charity / Ci sono alcuni problemi riguardo all’idea che ci siamo fatti della beneficenza“, ha dichiarato il cantante dei Blur ospite a Channel 4 news assieme al musicista e collaboratore africano Afel Bocoum (che ha affermato di non aver mai sentito parlare dell’iniziativa). “[C’è anche] questo assunto, ovvero che tutti sappiano ciò che realmente accade in Africa“, continua Albarn. “Queste iniziative che vengono fuori dal nulla e creano eccitamento mediatico e l’idea che se dai soldi puoi risolvere il problema [non tengono conto del fatto che] quando doni del denaro puoi creare un nuovo problema… …tutte quelle persone che [hanno partecipato], prendendosi quel pomeriggio libero, [dovrebbero andare] in Africa, e rendersi conto di com’è realmente, della magia di quel Continente, magari tornerebbero con consapevolezze diverse“.
