Il cd/dvd di Michael Gira, intitolato I Am Not Insane, contenente i demo di alcune delle canzoni che andranno a comporre il disco dei rinnovati Swans era in edizione limitata di 1000 (acquistabile esclusivamente alla Young God) e serviva a trovare fondi per le registrazioni.

Risultato dell'operazione? Sold out immediato e la band subito a registrare in studio. Il prezioso manufatto presenta un Mike Gira visto dal buco della serratura ricurvo sulla propria sei corde (e pronto a smadonnare se l'attacco non è buono).

Brani come No Words/No Thoughts e My Birth hanno un senso molto primitivo di heavyness e bisogna a questo punto immaginarsele con le chitarre metallurgiche di Norman Westberg.

Il resto non si discosta dalla recente produzione degli Angels Of Light, per cui c'è da credere che non si tornerà ai tempi di Filth o Cop. Del resto è lo stesso Gira a mettere le mani avanti: "THIS IS NOT A REUNION. It’s not some dumb-ass nostalgia act. It is not repeating the past. After 5 Angels Of Light albums, I needed a way to move FORWARD, in a new direction, and it just so happens that revivifying the idea of Swans is allowing me to do that. I’ll be using what I learned in the last several years to inform the way this new material develops, while carrying forward from where Swans left off with its final album Soundtracks For The Blind, and in particular, Swans Are Dead. If you have expectations about how Swans should be, that’s your business, but it would be a disservice to both of us if I were to make music with your needs in mind, and the music would certainly suffer as a result. In any event, I certainly never thought this day would arrive, but it’s inevitable, it’s here, it’s fate, so I’m succumbing to it".
