Love Or Die (Lo, gennaio 2008)

C’è un po’ di melanconico formalismo, della maturità bittersweet e della raffinatezza – ahilui, ahinoi - innocua  nel nuovo disco di Yokota. Sarà l’album ideale per qualche passaggio in playlist adult chill ma materia un po’ bolsa all’ascolto casalingo. Come dire, alcuni difetti del Sylvian di sempre che s’avvicendano a una new age molto classy. A mancare non è certo la generosità spesa nei tanti pigmenti che, con sapienza e misura, formano il platter: un girotondo attorno ai Novanta a mescolare residui wave, IDM, qualche cassa ambient house, drum’n’bass e effluvi noir a profusione. Semmai è quel profumo di risaputezza e facile decoro contemporaneo, l’aspetto che più impatta la seduzione di queste trame elettro-strumentali. Amore o morte, dice Yokota ma è il difficile adattamento quotidiano quello di cui parla. Piccoli moti nipponici dell’animo che alle volte si risolvono in una bellezza a perdere (The Scream of a Sage...) e altrettante regalano qualcosa di non completamente appagante (The Destiny of the Little Bird).
